Discussion: Is Boo Radley an Honorable man? Explain.

  1. What does it mean to be called 'honorable'? Well, the word 'Honor' means that you have honesty, fairness, and integrity in one's beliefs and actions. I believe that Boo Radley is an honorable man because he saves Jem and Scout from Mr. Ewell in the end of the book, knowing that it could jepardize himself by killing Bob Ewell. Essentially,he could have been put in jail or instead gotten a lot of attention. For a man who has spent his whole life alone because he does not want to be with anyone, it would be uncomfortable. Mr. Heck Tate puts it this way : "Taking the one man who's done you and this town a great service an' draggin' him and his shy ways into the limelight- to me, that's a sin" (Lee, 370) Boo risked everything he had to save the two closest things he had to friends from an evil, wicked man, and to me this is why Boo Radley is an honorable man. I also think he is honorable because he saved Jem and Scout's lives and did not expect anything in return from them or from the town. He just was doing what he believed was the right thing to do, which makes him honorable. Boo Radley displays a tremoundous act of courage and selflessness when he does this for Jem and Scout and this is why I believe Boo Radley is an honorable man.

  2. Here’s something to consider: Atticus is not a mockingbird. So it can be safe to assume that Boo Radley is a mockingbird. Boo Radley, along with Scout, Jem, and Mrs. Dubose are all mockingbirds. But why is this? It could have something to do with honor. Atticus is defending a black man. It’s an African American’s word vs. the white jury of Maycomb County. There is no way Atticus could have won, but he tried anyway. Boo Radley doesn’t ever come out of his house. I think that Boo Radley is honorable anyway. He just can’t seem to figure out just how to show others. I mean, he helped Jem and Scout on numerous occasions, and gave them little gifts in the tree trunk. How bad could he be? Here’s another thing to think about: What do Scout, Jem, Mrs. Dubose, and Boo Radley all have in common? They’re afraid. Afraid to understand, afraid to assert their feelings about racism, afraid to stand up for what they believe in. But what should a mockingbird have to fear, when it is a sin to kill a mockingbird? There is no real answer to this. After all, there is nothing to fear but fear itself. So, do I think Boo Radley is an honorable man? Of course, if honor is the act of loving something and wanting to give back.

  3. I think that Boo Radley is an honorable man. Based on the facts, it seems to me that all the stories told about him are not exactly true. They seem like someone’s opinion on why he is such a hermit. Boo Radley does care about people and I think we begin to see this when Miss Maudie’s house was on fire and he saw Scout outside shivering from the cold. He came to her and gave her a blanket. He ran away and didn’t take any recognition for it, which shows that he didn’t care about getting attention. He also saves Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell when Bob attacked them on Halloween. The fact that Boo risked his life to save theirs shows he is a man of integrity and has others well being at heart. Boo Radley was a different man, but being different doesn’t mean you’re not honorable. I think the facts show in the book that he was honorable.

  4. Is Boo Radley a honorable man?
The answer is yes. Boo Radley is victim of rumors of all kinds such as, eating squirrels, being a stalker, and just strait up evil. All of these things proved fake in the end. Boo Radley is different than everybody else, but that dose not mean he isn't honorable. In both the book and the movie he is victim of harsh rumors that consist of him being crazy, but he is honorable because even when these rumors are floating he saves scout from bob's revenge. Boo risked his life for someone else. This shows he is selfless and indeed honorable. To sum it all up, Boo is different but also honorable.

  5. You could say that Boo Radley is an honorable character, but to know what honorable is, you have to know what ‘honor’ is. To have Honor means to have honesty, integrity, and respect. Boo shows this by defending Scout and Jem, putting his life in danger to save theirs. It takes a lot to be able to do that, after all the rumors about how evil he is, he still manages to do the right thing. In conclusion, we can say that Boo Radley is an honorable man.

  6. Can Boo Radley be considered an honorable man? Yes because in the book it shows how unselfish he is and how he cares about others. He risked his life to save Scout’s on Halloween, and even gave her a blanket when she saw her sitting out in the cold weather when Miss Maudie’s house was on fire. The rumors about him are just based on what other people think about him. They don’t even know him that well and they’re already assuming things when the truth is, Boo Radley is a very honorable person. An honorable person can be defined as fair and deserving or winning honor and respect. Boo Radley showed that he is not a selfish person, and he deserves to be treated with respect and honor from the way he showed Scout and Jem that he cares. He’s not a bad person at all, and in conclusion, we can all say that Boo Radley is an honorable man.

  7. Is Boo Radley a honorable man?

Boo Radley is a honorable man because when Jem and Scout got attacked. When Scout Didn't know what was going on Boo Radley was there he is the one who saved Jem and Scout. Boo saved them even though Jem and Scout thought he was like a monster, Boo just doesn't talk that much and hasn't been seen that much. Boo Radley is a honorable character.

  8. So we are asked the question “Is Boo Radley an honorable person”. Well yes he is an honorable person due to the fact he saved Atticus’s children from an attack from bob Euall. The Definition of Honorable is like saying that the person will always be respected for what they have accomplished. So in this case Boo Radley comes out from the house that he never left to save 2 children he did not know. Now that in my books says he is an honorable man. The sad part from all this comes out when before the town spreads rumors about Boo Radley saying that he was a bad and scary man who put a scissors though his father’s foot. Now when the town hears about how Boo Radley is a savior to the Finch family the town will have a different perspective of him. Maybe he may even get a job of some sort and not be seen as a monster but a man.

  10. It’s obvious that Boo Radley is an honorable man. For example everyone that has commented seems to agree that he is an honorable man and doesn’t the majority rule. For instance he has done things deserving of honor which makes him honorable. At the end of the book he saves Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell when they are attacked in the woods. To save the children was a selfless act. Boo put himself in danger to protect children he had no responsibility to protect. He protected Jem and Scout and for this I respect his character in this book. After all high respect is a characteristic of a man that is honored.

  12. Boo Radley is an honorable man because, even though people have told stories about him that make him out to be a monster, he has just sat in his house for a very long time not harming a single soul. In the ending Boo Radley comes out of his house to save Jem and Scout from Mr. Ewell, he is showing that he is an honorable person because even though he could have gone to jail for killing Mr. Ewell, he knew he was doing the right thing, which was saving two innocent children from possibly getting killed. Also Boo Radley took it upon himself to go and save Jem and Scout when, one, he did not even know them, and second, it was not his job to be looking after them.

  14. There are many opinions in regards to if Boo Radley is an honorable man or not. Throughout the majority of the book, Boo was seen as a monster, a source of evil. He never came out of his house and was rumored to have stabbed his father with a pair of scissors. All the children and towns folk were afraid of him and what he was capable of doing. Under these circumstances, one would most definitely disagree. On the other hand, we soon started to see another, perhaps real, side of Boo Radley. Miss Maudie told her view of Boo, how he was sweet and kind as a child, very pleasant to have around. During this time, he left little presents in the tree hole for the children. The readers were aware it was Boo, but the children took their time to learn so. Boo then showed his true side himself. On Halloween night, Scout and Jem were walking home from a Halloween party and play when they heard someone following them. To their discovery, it was Bob Ewell trying to kill them. He grabbed Jem when an unknown person fought for him and brought him home. Scout was unharmed and walked home. Later, they discovered the unknown hero was none other than Boo Radley. The thoughts that speculated Maycomb accusing Boo as a monster were only rumors. He committed an act of bravery and showed his sweet, caring, and helpful self. He is an honorable man because this act showed that you could trust him, and that he didn’t have a mean bone in his body.

  15. Is Boo Radley a honorable man? Well, there is evidence fully against him how he is not. He was rumored to have stabbed his father with a pair of sisors, people thought he was insane, and he never came out of his house. But what about silent honor? Boo secretly built a bond with the children when he gave them little presents in the tree hole for them and mended Jem's pants. He defended Jem and defeated Bob Ewell. He was no monster. Just trustworthy. Isn't that true honor? Trust. Yes, Boo Radley is a honorable man who is scared of the world but is brave for others.

  16. Is Boo Radley really an honorable man? To answer a question such as this you need to find the definition of honor. The definition of honorable is worthy of honor. Well what is honor? Honor is to regard something, or someone, with high respect. Do you think Boo is treated with high respect?
Boo Radley is not regarded with high respect; therefore, he is not honorable. However, he is treated with high respect to Atticus, Jem, and Scout Finch. Readers of “To Kill a Mockingbird” know that Boo is honorable. Boo sounds like a “bad,” “scary,” person at the beginning of the novel but he is truly a good man. He watches over the Finch kids, good examples of this is Boo mends Jem’s pants, leaves the kids presents, and also Boo saves the Finch kids from Bob Ewell. All of this combines into one thing and that is called silent honor. Silent honor is another way of saying being honorable while hiding from media and publicity.

  17. Yes, Boo Radley is an honorable man in the end, he proves that he can risk his own safety to save people whom he barely knew, and he did it knowing that he might be exposed to all kinds of attention. In the end, despite all the rumors, Arthur is just an average guy who wants to do his part to life, and I respect that.

  18. Boo Radley is an Honorable man.He prove to be a honorable man by saving Jem and Scout at the end of the story, he proves himself worthy.Do you know what Honor is? Honor is a source of credit or distinction, someone in high respect is basically what it means. I think Boo knew what he had to do and he decided to do the right thing and expected nothing back, he is a hero and a honorable man in the story.

  19. Is Boo Radly an honorable man? Well obviously he is because for one he saves Jem’s life at the end the story. He is brave, Honorable and worthy for a respectful reputation. He deserves to be awarded the gift honor because most of his life he did not do anything but sit in his house. But when he saw a chance to show Maycomb what he really was like it was his time to shine when Jem was getting attacked at the end of the story. If I was getting attacked by someone I know for a fact that I would be grateful for who ever dose it but especially for a person that is that honorable.

  20. Is Boo Radley a honorable man?
The answer is yes. All it is, is Boo Radley is a victim of rumors of all kinds that stereo typed him as a monster. Ever since he killed his father rumors and lies started going around such as being a stalker, eating squirrels, and just being strait up evil. What convinced me that Boo Radley was an honorable person was when even after Jem and scout snuck onto Boo's property he still saved there lives in the forest from that evil Bob Ewell. Boo Radley is truly a good person.
